Four matches
Further details of the tournament – also the first to be organised by the UEFA administration – were revealed at UEFA's headquarters on Monday. Nyon's Colovray stadium – opposite the House of European Football and the setting for the 2004 men's UEFA European Under-19 Championship – will host the four matches in the final tournament, which will culminate in the final on Friday 23 May at 13.00CET, transmitted live by Eurosport. New Zealand-bound
Forty UEFA member associations set out on the road to the final tournament, with two qualifying rounds played to decide the four final-round teams, Denmark, England, France and Germany. The four teams have qualified for the first FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in New Zealand between 28 October and 16 November this year.

Unforgettable atmosphere
The UEFA administration is organising the tournament on the proposal of UEFA President Michel Platini and a subsequent decision by the UEFA Executive Committee. The main aim is to create an unforgettable atmosphere for the young players in this inaugural final round.

Regional touch
"The objectives are to promote women's football in Europe, and in particular in the region where the tournament is being played," said UEFA development competitions manager Claudio Negroni. "By involving regional partners, we also want to add a regional touch."

EURO enthusiasm
A major promotional drive is underway in order to attract a maximum number of spectators to the stadium. "We hope to profit from the enthusiasm generated by UEFA EURO 2008™ among the local population," Negroni explained. The EURO final round in Switzerland and Austria begins on 7 June, and nearby Geneva is one of the eight venues.

Promotion drive
Training grounds have been found in the nearby town of Morges, with promotional work involving the sending of more than 400 letters to football clubs, schools and tourist offices in the region, as well as in neighbouring areas in France. Posters and tournament programmes are also being prepared in abundance.

Entry free
Entry to matches will be free of charge, with 5,000 tickets available for each encounter. Souvenir UEFA EURO 2008™ T-shirts – in white and blue – will be exchanged for each entry ticket at each game. The players will also kick 22 replicas of the official adidas EUROPASS UEFA EURO 2008™ match ball into the crowd. The winners of the final will be presented with the trophy by Michel Platini in the stand immediately after the match. "We would urge as many people as possible to come along to the matches and create a great atmosphere for the players," said Negroni.
