Spain and Germany are used to getting their way at the WU17s yet they will meet with resistance in Friday's semi-finals from two sides still to reach a final: Norway and England.

Spain, winners in 2010, 2011, 2015, have been so good all over the pitch at this WU17 EURO that the favourites' mantle in Friday's opening semi-final almost automatically hangs on the shoulders of María Antonia Is's team. Norway are the side tasked with denying them a sixth final appearance. Coach Lena Tyriberget rested top scorer Sophie Haug and restricted captain Frida Maanum to a half of Tuesday's win against Belarus. Fresh legs may be needed to keep up with the Spaniards' short passing and dribbling. For now, however, the 2009 semi-finalists can dream of reaching a first final.

In the wake of their 4-0 matchday three triumph over Czech Repubic, Germany appear to be gathering momentum at this tournament. The 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013 champions have talent aplenty plus the know-how of coach Anouschka Bernhard, yet last season they stumbled at this penultimate hurdle against the Swiss. John Griffiths's England will take encouragement from that, as well as from the near-to-100 scoring opportunities they have carved out here in Belarus. "We're always creating chances and we've just got to make sure we take those chances – because Spain and Germany do," cautioned the man now in charge of the 2013/14 semi-finalists.
