Just 55 days after they claimed the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship title for the first time, England will begin their defence on Saturday as the long road to the 2009/10 finals in FYR Macedonia begins.

On a high
England manager Mo Marley has had a busy two months since leading her side to their historic triumph in Belarus, a 2-0 final victory over Sweden completing an impressive campaign. She guided Everton LFC into the UEFA Women's Champions League Round of 32 before switching back to national duties, forming part of Hope Powell's technical team at UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™. England reached the final, and Marley will be eager to continue her roll as the U19 first qualifying round gets under way.

Norway challenge
England kick off against Belarus on Saturday and face Slovakia on Monday, yet the Group 6 hosts' true test will come on Thursday when they face perennial challengers Norway. There is some room for error at this early stage, however, as the top two teams in each of the eleven first qualifying round sections go through along with the third-placed side with the best record against the leading pair in their pool. Germany have a bye to the second qualifying round draw at 09.30CET on 11 November in Nyon. After the games in the spring, seven teams will join hosts FYR Macedonia in the finals next May and June.
