First steps to Italy showpiece

Italy and the 2011 UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship is the target for the 44 first qualifying round contenders who enter the Nyon draw on 15 December, with matches next September.

Forty-four UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship contenders will learn their 2010/11 first qualifying round fate on 15 December when the draw takes place in Nyon at 17.30CET.

Top seeds Germany have a bye to the second qualifying round but the remaining teams will be split into eleven groups of four by the draw, with each pool containing two sides apiece from the top-ranked Pot A and Pot B. The groups will be played as one-venue mini-tournaments from 11 to 16 September 2010, with the top two going through along with the third-placed team with the best record against the leading pair in their section.

Finals
Six groups of four will then contest the second qualifying round from 31 March to 5 April 2011, with the winners progressing to join hosts Italy as well as the best runners-up. The Italy finals will be held from 30 May until 11 June.
