Meinert looking forward to Norway rematch

Maren Meinert warned a repeat of their 3-1 victory over Norway in Saturday's final "will not be so straightforward" if her side continue to waste chances as they did against Switzerland.

Although still concerned by profligate finishing, Maren Meinert said she was satisfied by her Germany side's 3-1 semi-final victory over Switzerland, to set up a final rematch against Norway on Saturday.

Maren Meinert, Germany coach
I am satisfied that we've reached the final. We have not been there for four years so it is a great result for us. It was a good game, a tough game, but it was pleasing for the supporters who came all this way to watch us.

It was a worry because Switzerland were dangerous, especially their No9 [Cora Canetta], and in games like that you are always concerned that they could be a threat from free-kicks or set pieces. At times like those you regret the chances you miss and we missed a lot again tonight. I'm not sure we will be able to win many more matches after wasting so many chances.

I hope we manage to repeat the result of the first match but I don't think it will be so straightforward this time because since then Norway have had a good tournament. But I'm looking forward to it because it's important for us to be in the final and I think Norway are worthy opponents.

The reason I substituted Eunice Beckmann was because she was quite tired and I think we needed some fresh legs on the pitch. In the final I hope she scores early on because that will give her the confidence to score again.

Yannick Schwery, Switzerland coach
I would like to congratulate Germany, who played a great match tonight and deserved to go through to the final. I would also like to compliment our goalkeeper [Pascale Küffer] who yet again had a fantastic match. I think she was the best goalkeeper in the whole tournament. Cora Canetta got us back in the match with an extraordinary goal and we were hoping for another from her in the second half but it was beyond us.

The plan was to play five in midfield, suck in the German midfielders and then beat them with long balls over the top for Canetta. Unfortunately Germany were too quick winning the ball back and so Canetta was left rather isolated up front.

We are not yet good enough to pass the ball around as well as Germany do so we had a different plan. It was disappointing because as Switzerland coach I want to win any tournament I enter, but at least we reached the semi-finals, made it to the [FIFA U-20 Women's] World Cup and I'm looking forward to leading them there.
