Italy have drafted 16-year-old Valentina Casaroli into their squad ahead of their meeting with Scotland after first-choice goalkeeper Katia Schroffenegger was ruled out with a hand injury.

Casaroli was not included in the original party but travelled to the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship to gain experience with an eye on next season's finals in Rimini. She may yet get a taste of action, however, after Schroffenegger damaged a metacarpal in her left hand and was ruled out of Sunday's Group A game against Scotland. Neither side can progress to the last four following back-to-back defeats.

Casaroli, ever-present for Italy at U17 level this year, is expected to provide back-up for Chiara Valzolgher at the Boris Trajkovski Stadium. She becomes the second player drafted into the squad after Eleonora Pederzoli replaced centre-back Roberta Filippozzi on Tuesday.
