"Eden Avital's goal [against Denmark] was a special moment. It was reward for two years of hard work. I was so happy. We brought this amazing tournament to Israel and hosted it the best we could; with the football we produced I think we can be proud of Israeli women's football. Now we must keep up the momentum and get more girls on the pitch."

Israel team analysis

Israel team analysis

  • Started with a 1-4-5-1 formation.
  • Most of their attacking play went through No10 Eden Avital, who played as a creative midfielder and was often pushed into the attacking line.
  • A tenacious team who lived up to the 'never-say-die' attitude promoted as one of the key values of their academy.
  • Were often under immediate pressure from defensive restarts, where they sat deep.
  • Experience will bring for them the chance to be more streetwise in knowing when to speed the game up and when (and how) to slow it down.
  • Tried to utilise the full-back on the left-hand side with the ball and dropped deeper when the ploy wasn't successful.
  • Pressuring line was often at the edge of the centre circle in the attacking half of the pitch.
