Svensson strike not enough

Nigeria 1-1 Sweden Sweden's hopes of a winning start were denied when Victoria Svensson's second-half goal was cancelled out late on.

Sweden's hopes of a winning start to the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup were denied by a late Nigeria equaliser.

Svensson winner
Runners-up to Germany in 2003, Sweden are in probably the toughest pool, Group B, and after two-time winners the United States and highly-rated Korea DPR drew 2-2 in the first of today's matches in Chendu, three points against African champions Nigeria became even more important. Sweden had the better of the first half but it was not until five minutes after the interval that the breakthrough came from captain Victoria Svensson. However, with just eight minutes left Cynthia Uwak of Swedish club Falköpings KIK levelled. Sweden will now meet the US on Friday while Nigeria face Korea DPR.
