Ghedin handed Italy reins

The Italian Football Federation has named Pietro Ghedin as coach of the women's team, replacing Carolina Morace.

EURO woe
The 52-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the post, after acting as assistant to Cesare Maldini, Dino Zoff and Giovanni Trapattoni for Italy's men's team. He also had a spell in charge of Malta and switches to the women's game following Morace's departure in the wake of Italy's disappointing showing at UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2005™.

Serie A experience
Italy lost all three games in the group stage in England and the former ACF Fiorentina and S.S. Lazio defender will be charged with helping them turn things around.
