Denmark remain in contention to reach the Peace Queen Cup final in the Korea Republic after a hard-fought 1-0 win against the Netherlands, as Italy impressed by holding Brazil.

Madsen winner
While Denmark gained an impressive 1-1 draw with the United States in their Group B opener, the Netherlands lost 1-0 to Australia. Therefore Vera Pauw's side needed a victory to retain hopes of reaching the final and they produced a fine performance against the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers, only to concede an 81st-minute goal to freshly-introduced substitute Janne Madsen. The US overcame stubborn Australia 2-0, so the Olympic champions lead Denmark on goal difference ahead of Thursday’s concluding matches, when the Netherlands face the Americans and Denmark take on Australia.

Italy draw with Brazil
In Group B, Italy bounced back from losing 3-2 to Canada with a 1-1 result against Brazil, ending any hopes of reaching the final. Azzurre captain Patrizia Panico headed Italy ahead in the 21st minute but Suzana equalised early in the second half. Canada defeat the Korea Republic 3-1 and so top the group and need only draw with Brazil on Wednesday to reach the final, as Italy play Korea with second place in their sights.
