Pedersen inspires Denmark win

Denmark recovered from their opening loss to hosts China to get their FIFA Women's World Cup campaign back on track with a 2-0 victory against New Zealand on Saturday.

Changes pay off
Beaten 3-2 by a late China winner on Wednesday, Denmark struck twice in quick succession just after the hour in Wuhan today. Katrine Pedersen opened the scoring with a delicious free-kick on 61 minutes before Cathrine Paaske Sørensen wrapped up the points soon after when heading in another Pedersen set-piece. "In the first half the pace of the game was too slow so I made some adjustments at half-time," said Denmark coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller. "After the break we picked up the pace, passed more long balls and got the victory."

Brazil on top
Denmark still have it all to do to reach the quarter-finals, however as their next opponents Brazil brushed aside the hosts 4-0 to move on to six points at the Group D summit following their opening 5-0 defeat of New Zealand. Denmark will most likely have to match China's result against New Zealand on Wednesday to go through.
