• A football obsessive since an early age, she started playing at 13 with Borussia, a team from the suburbs of Rome. She immediately proved lethal in front of goal and moved to Valmontone in Serie B.

• A Lazio fan since childhood, she moved to the capital club when she was 19 and made her Serie A debut in 1993 before joining Torino. She scored 32 goals in the 1995/96 season for the Turin club to earn an Italy call-up, scoring five minutes into her debut – a 4-1 win against Portugal.

• Transferred to Modena and played alongside her idol Carolina Morace as she picked up her first Scudetto. In 1998 she returned to Lazio and was the Serie A top-scorer in four consecutive seasons winning another championship in 2003.

• After brief spells with Milan and again at Torino, she moved to Bardolino where she won the Scudetto three times and reached the semifinals of the 2007/08 UEFA Women's Cup, finishing the campaign as joint top-scorer with nine goals.

• In 2009 she moved to Torres and helped the Sardinian side to win two Scudettos in succession, lengthening her own streak to five consecutive titles between 2007 and 2011. Panico helped Italy reach the quarter-finals at UEFA Women's EURO 2009, and has played over 160 times for her country making her Italy's most capped player.
