Hamburger SV secured their first victory under Thorsten Fink at home against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to edge clear of the Bundesliga danger zone, while VfB Stuttgart ran out 2-1 winners against bottom club FC Augsburg.

José Paolo Guerrero gave Hamburg a 25th-minute lead after his initial shot had bounced back off a post and Fink's first success since his October appointment was then wrapped up by Marcell Jansen's second-half effort. The 2-0 triumph was also HSV's first home win of the season and, unbeaten in five Bundesliga outings, they now lie 14th.

Stuttgart took advantage of Hannover 96's 4-1 loss at VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday to go sixth thanks to two Martin Harnik goals against Augsburg. The Austrian international opened the scoring from a corner close to half-time and powered in a second six minutes after the break, Tobias Werner having drawn the visitors level four minutes previously. The Rothosen now trail leaders FC Bayern München by seven points.
