Zorri ensures Italian victory

Italy 1-0 Denmark Tatiana Zorri's penalty settles a friendly between two UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2005™ qualifiers.

Italy 1-0 Denmark
A goal from Tatiana Zorri three minutes before half-time earned Italy a narrow friendly win at home to fellow UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2005™ qualifiers Denmark in Genoa.

Penalty winner
The 27-year-old midfield player settled an even contest from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute to give Carolina Morace's side a morale-boosting victory in front of 1,100 spectators at the Stadio Scorbia.

Attacking Danes
The Danes started the match on the front foot, but struggled to break down a disciplined Italian defence that coped admirably with everything that the visitors could throw at it. Scoring opportunities were severely limited in the first 45 minutes, until Danish midfield player Anne Dot Eggers conceded a penalty with half-time approaching and Zorri made no mistake with the ensuing spot-kick.

Second-half chances
Denmark's new coach Peter Bonde, in charge for the first time, made three substitutions at the interval. The changes seemed to revitalise the visitors, who created a number of presentable chances after half-time but without ever really threatening to take anything from the game.

Content with attitude
In spite of the defeat Bonde was reasonably satisfied after the match, saying: "I would like to compliment the players for their attitude. They never gave up, but kept fighting all the way. Of course I cannot be content with the game, as I think we created too few scoring opportunities. However, I got the chance to test some things, and I know exactly what to work on in the time ahead."
