Kuhn rewarded for Swiss success

After leading Switzerland to UEFA EURO 2004™, coach Köbi Kuhn has signed a two-year contract extension.

Ticket to Portugal
The SFV-ASF opened contract negotiations with Kuhn following the 2-0 victory against the Republic of Ireland on 11 October which secured Switzerland's place in the UEFA EURO 2004™ finals as Group 10 winners.

'Complete satisfaction'
"We have shown it was right to opt for a Swiss coach," SFV-ASF president Ralph Zloczower said in a statement. "Kuhn's work has been to our complete satisfaction. We have qualified for EURO 2004™ and he has built a team with many young players. It was obvious we would look to extend his contract and, after some discussions, we have done that."

New deal
Kuhn, who won 64 Swiss caps as a player, succeeded the Argentinian Enzo Trossero in June 2001. He was the first Swiss coach of the national team in 12 years and previously led the country's Under-17 and Under-21 sides. The new deal, which ends on 31 December 2005, will cover the qualification campaign for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
