Costacurta to carry on playing

AC Milan have rewarded defender Alessandro Costacurta with a new contract that runs until 2005.

Twenty major honours
The 37-year-old former Italian international has collected 20 major honours in his career with the Rossoneri, including six Serie A titles, four European Champion Clubs' Cups and two European/South American Cups. He and Paolo Maldini are set to play in their fifth edition of the inter-continental competition against CA Boca Juniors in Yokohama on 14 December.

Recovery from injury
In 2001/02, Costacurta suffered a serious knee injury and was forced to consider retirement, but the following season he decided to continue playing and added more medals as Milan lifted the Coppa Italia and Champions League. He played 66 minutes of the Old Trafford final, which Milan won on penalties.

Successful start
This season Costacurta has appeared four times in Milan's successful Champions League group stage campaign and in six Serie A matches. Milan are currently second in Serie A, unbeaten and level on points with leaders AS Roma.
