Bale inspires Wales to comeback win

Wales 2-1 Scotland
Gareth Bale scored twice in the last nine minutes as Chris Coleman's charges came from a goal down to get off the mark in dramatic fashion in Group A.

A Gareth Bale double in the last 11 minutes earned Wales a dramatic victory against Scotland on a soaking Cardiff night.

James Morrison had given the visitors a first-half lead and that looked like being enough for all three points despite the hosts best efforts. Bale levelled from the penalty spot with nine minutes left after he himself had been fouled, before completing a remarkable late turnaround with an unstoppable long-range drive in the 90th minute.

Wales started brightly, Bale's early dipping shot flashing just wide and only a vital last-gasp block from Gary Caldwell denying Joe Allen from close range. Steve Morison came even closer on 27 minutes, heading Bale's floated cross narrowly past the far post.

From the resulting goal kick, however, Scotland took the lead. Steven Fletcher leapt to flick on Allan McGregor's long clearance and James Morrison raced ahead of the defence to prod into the bottom corner.

The hosts dominated the second period, the electric Bale and energetic Aaron Ramsey causing problems in the pouring rain. Lewis Price beat away Morrison's near-post drive as Scotland threatened themselves, before Ramsey clipped wide after a good run and Bale curled past a post after some right-wing trickery.

Then, with 11 minutes to go, Shaun Maloney felled Bale after another burst into the box, and the winger slotted in a deserved equaliser from the spot. The omnipresent No11 then snatched victory in stunning fashion, collecting the ball deep, charging forward unchallenged and firing an unstoppable shot into the top right corner to snatch a vital win in memorable fashion.
