ACF Fiorentina have announced the signing of 21-year-old defender Manuel da Costa from fellow UEFA Cup contenders PSV Eindhoven for a reported fee of €4.5m.
Five-year deal
The French-born Portuguese Under-21 international has signed a five-year contract with Fiorentina who are fourth in Serie A. Da Costa started his career in Ligue 1 with AS Nancy-Lorraine, playing ten league games before joining PSV in 2006. He made 15 Eredivisie appearances for the Dutch champions, scoring one goal, during his first term at the PSV Stadion.
Limited opportunities
This season, however, he has found first-team opportunities limited, having just one substitute outing in the league and featuring once in the UEFA Champions League – both times in September. Fiorentina will face Rosenborg BK in the UEFA Cup Round of 32 on 14 and 21 February.
