Rangers rue Nieto misfortune

Rangers FC have confirmed that striker Federico Nieto will be out of action for six weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage against FC Artmedia.

Enforced substitution
The 22-year-old Argentinian forward had to be substituted after 38 minutes of the Group H game at Ibrox and will definitely miss the Scottish champions' next two games in the section - away to Artmedia in Bratislava on 1 November and the trip to Portugal to play FC Porto three weeks later. Nieto, whose loan deal with Rangers expires at the end of the year, is currently on crutches and is not expected to return to action before December.

Kyrgiakos cheer
There was some good news for Rangers manager Alex McLeish, however, as the knee injury which forced Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos to come off in the second half against the Slovakian champions is not as bad as first feared and the Greek defender should be fit for the reverse fixture. "It's a blow for Nieto, but the physiotherapist will work round the clock to get him back as quickly as possible," McLeish said. "[Kyrgiakos's] knee problem is not a bad one and we are targetting the away game against Artmedia, if not sooner."
