FC Basel 1893 have been dealt another blow ahead of their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign with the news that Gilles Yapi will "certainly be out until the new year".

The Ivorian international has been ruled out for six months after rupturing a cruciate ligament in his right knee during Sunday's 2-0 win against Neuchâtel Xamax FC. He was replaced on 84 minutes, with a club statement subsequently confirming the severity of his injury.

Yapi, 29, joins fellow midfielder Valentin Stocker on the sidelines for the group stage after the Swiss international underwent surgery on a similar injury in April. Basel will discover their UEFA Champions League fate when the draw is made in Monaco on Thursday 25 August.
