Chelsea FC have announced that Portuguese international defender Paulo Ferreira has signed a new five-year contract with the London club.

'Delighted to commit'
"I'm delighted to commit my long-term future to Chelsea," Ferreira said. "The fans have made me very welcome since I have been at Chelsea and I enjoy my football here a lot. We have had a lot of success and I am hoping we have more over the coming years."

European champion
The 29-year-old right-back, who moved to Stamford Bridge after winning the UEFA Champions League with FC Porto in 2004, has made 84 Premier League appearances – though only ten this season. He did, however, remain a regular for Portugal in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying and has 45 caps. Chelsea face Olympiacos CFP in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round, with the first leg in Athens on Tuesday.
