Rangers role for Nuno Capucho

FC Porto winger Nuno Capucho has joined Scottish champions Rangers FC.

FC Porto winger Nuno Capucho has joined Rangers FC after playing against their fierce rivals Celtic FC in the 2002/03 UEFA Cup final.

Transfer fee
The 31-year-old Portuguese international impressed Rangers manager Alex McLeish as Porto won 3-2 against Celtic in the UEFA Cup final in Seville, and the player has agreed a two-year deal to move to Ibrox with the Glasgow club paying a €1m fee for him.

Porto silverware
Nuno Capucho spent six years at Porto, where he won three league titles, five Portuguese Cups and five Portuguese Supercups. "People know that I gave everything to this club," said the player after winning his fifth and perhaps final Portuguese Cup with Porto last weekend.

Limited opportunities
Having played for Gil Vicente FC, Sporting Clube de Portugal and Vitória Guimarães, Capucho moved to Porto in 1997. The right winger was a key man in the squad throughout his time with the club, but he found his first-team opportunities limited this season. "It was my idea to leave Porto," he said. "I am only happy when I am playing regular football. I think it's time to move on.

'Looking for happiness'
"FC Porto is over for me," he added. "It's a great club and I have had some fantastic years here, but now I am departing for a new adventure. This was a fantastic season for the team, but for me it wasn't so good."

International disappointment
Nuno Capucho has also found his opportunities with the Portuguese national side limited and has not been able to add to his 34 caps since the arrival of Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari. He is now looking forward to reigniting his career with Rangers. "Rangers are a great team," he said. "I am very happy to be playing in the [UEFA] Champions League. Glasgow is fantastic."
