Chelsea FC captain John Terry will miss the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg against SSC Napoli as he is set to undergo an operation on his right knee.

Defender Terry, 31, trained prior to Tuesday's first leg at the Stadio San Paolo but did not feature in the 3-1 defeat and will have exploratory surgery in the coming days. "Normally it means four to six weeks [out]," said Chelsea manager André Villas-Boas after his side surrendered an early lead to lose in Naples. "We will see how the operation goes and hopefully he can return within that time frame."

Such a lay-off would rule the England player out of Napoli's visit to London on 14 March. The operation will examine the extent of bone bruising to his injured knee.
