German champions Borussia Dortmund have handed Jakub Błaszczykowski a three-year contract extension, binding the Poland midfielder to the club until 2016. "I'm delighted to be staying at Dortmund," said the 26-year-old. "I'm very happy with the new contract."

Signed from Wisła Kraków in summer 2007 for €3m, 'Kuba' has scored 14 goals in 141 league games for Dortmund, winning league titles in 2011 and 2012, as well as a German Cup last season. His next ambition is to shine in Europe. "We want to achieve more this year in the Champions League," he said. "We've got the quality to do it." His side will enter the competition in the group stage.

Błaszczykowski is one of the 32 players on the long list for the UEFA Best Player in Europa Award.
