Chelsea FC have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Chilean left-back Cristián Cuevas who will have a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The Chile Under-20 defender arrives from O'Higgins FC in a transfer reportedly worth more than €3m. The teenager, who first broke into the O'Higgins team in 2011, appeared in four of his country's five games at this summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey as Chile reached the quarter-finals.
"I am very happy," he said. "Chelsea were following me for more than a year. What I wanted happened, which was joining this club." The youngster becomes Chelsea's fourth new face of the summer, linking up with Mark Schwarzer, André Schürrle and Marco van Ginkel in west London.
