Modesto returns to France

UEFA Champions League finalists AS Monaco FC have signed French defender François Modesto.
Cagliari Calcio defender François Modesto on Friday became the second player to join AS Monaco FC ahead of the 2004/05 season.

Serie A experience
The 26-year-old Frenchman started his career with SC Bastia in 1997 before moving to Italy in 1999. He played one season in Serie A and three in Serie B for the Italian side and made 44 appearances for the club during the 2003/04 season.

Morientes loss
Modesto, who can play in defence and midfield, is Monaco's second signing after a season which saw them reach the UEFA Champions League final in May, a game they lost 3-0 to FC Porto. Brazilian defender Maicon has already arrived at the club, but the French side have lost forward Fernando Morientes, who has returned to Real Madrid CF after the end of his loan spell.
