Club Atlético de Madrid will be without full-back Javi Manquillo for their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against AC Milan after the 19-year-old sustained a serious neck injury.
The Spanish Under-20 international fell heavily during Atlético's 2-0 Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg home loss to Real Madrid CF on Tuesday and, as a result, spent the night in hospital under observation. Tests on the defender have now shown that he suffered a fractured vertebral lamina and will be required to wear a cervical collar for four to six weeks.
The right-sided Manquillo has made seven appearances in all competitions for the Rojiblancos this term, including his UEFA Champions League debut in the 2-0 matchday six home victory over FC Porto. Diego Simeone's team face Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza next Wednesday before hosting the return leg in Spain on 11 March.
