Bad break for Fritz

Bayer 04 Leverkusen will be without defender Clemens Fritz for up to eight weeks after he broke his leg.

Eight weeks out
The 23-year-old sustained a fracture to his lower leg in a challenge with SC Rot-Weiss Essen defender Sidney Santos de Brito at the weekend. He is expected to be sidelined for eight weeks, ruling him out of Leverkusen's Champions League third qualifying round matches on 10/11 and 24/25 August.

'Big loss'
The right-back joined Leverkusen from Karlsruher SC in 2003 and made 14 appearances last season. "This is a big loss," said managing director Wolfgang Holzhäuser. "The boy was on his way into the national team." Coach Klaus Augenthaler could move Hanno Balitsch, Juan Silveira or Bernd Schneider to right-back to compensate for Fritz's absence. "We will solve the problem internally," he said.
