Nightmare start for Núñez

Liverpool FC will be without Antonio Núñez for a month after he damaged knee ligaments.

Left knee
Núñez hurt his left knee in training yesterday, just hours after being officially unveiled as a Liverpool player, and a scan today revealed he has partially torn his medial ligament. Núñez, who arrived at Anfield this week as part of the transfer that took Michael Owen to Real Madrid CF, must now wait at least a month for his first-team debut for the Reds.

'Out for four weeks'
Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton told the club's website: "We expect the player will be out of action for four weeks." Núñez would not have been eligible anyway for the second leg of Liverpool's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against Austria's Grazer AK at Anfield next week.

Diouf joins Bolton
Meanwhile, Senegalese international forward El-Hadji Diouf has joined another Premiership club, Bolton Wanderers FC, on a season-long loan from Liverpool, subject to gaining a work permit. Diouf, a two-times African Footballer of the Year, arrived at Liverpool from RC Lens in a €14m transfer in 2002 but has failed to hold down a first-team place.
