Rio Ferdinand on Chelsea and Ronaldo

Rio Ferdinand, a UEFA Champions League winner with Manchester United FC in 2008, believes Chelsea FC's ability to "win ugly" will take them into the quarter-finals.

Former Manchester United FC defender Rio Ferdinand thinks Chelsea FC will oust Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

The tie is evenly poised after a 1-1 draw in the first leg, but Ferdinand, who won the UEFA Champions League with United in 2008 – beating Chelsea in a dramatic final in Moscow – believes it will be the Blues that progress to the quarter-finals.

Speaking to UEFA.com's radio show Matchday Live, Ferdinand said: "I think Chelsea will go through. They can win ugly and they know how to win. They've got a very strong squad and when you have someone like [Eden] Hazard in the form he's in, with [Cesc] Fàbregas supporting him and [Diego] Costa who can finish chances off, they're always going to be in with a chance."

Ferdinand, who is currently playing for Queens Park Rangers FC, was also full of praise for former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo after the Real Madrid CF forward broke another record on Tuesday evening.

Ferdinand, who won the UEFA Champions League in 2008 alongside Ronaldo, continued: "This is a guy who scores every type of goal available to you. He's a devastating player. He wants to score goals and you can see that in the way he plays. He's having a bad time at the moment, but he knocked two goals in out of nothing. The guy is just relentless in his desire to be one of the best players to have played the game and that's great to see."

Rio Ferdinand was speaking to Matchday Live from Heineken's Champion the Match event in Halfweg on Tuesday night. Listen to full match commentary of Chelsea's match with Paris on UEFA.com's live radio show tonight. Tune in from 1930.CET in the UEFA.com MatchCentre.
