Madrid back on top in Spain, City and Paris held

Real Madrid edged Athletic on Sunday to return to the head of the class in Spain, but there was frustration for the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City as they could only draw.

Arsenal 0-0 Middlesbrough
Arsenal were denied their seventh consecutive Premier League victory by a Middlesbrough team that fashioned the better opportunities in north London. It was a frustrating way for Gunners manager Arsène Wenger to mark his 67th birthday.

Paris Saint-Germain 0-0 Marseille
Chances proved thin on the ground at the Parc des Princes as Paris were unable to overcome Rudi Garcia's Marseille in Le Classique, and they now trail Ligue 1 leaders Nice by six points in third.

Lugano 2-2 Basel (Mariani 63, Alioski 75pen; Delgado 51, Callà 88pen)
Davide Callà maintained Basel's unbeaten Super League record in 2016/17, converting a spot kick with two minutes remaining after Éder Balanta had been pulled back.

Ludogorets 4-0 Lokomotiv GO (Keșerü 25 78, Marcelinho 71, Júnior Quixadá 90)
Ludogorets are two points off the pace with a game in hand after this, their sixth straight A PFG win.

Crotone 1-2 Napoli (Rosi 89; Callejón 17, Maksimović 33)
Despite Manolo Gabbiadini's first-half red card, Napoli claimed their first win in three Serie A outings.

Beşiktaş 3-0 Antalyaspor (Aboubakar 45+1, Talisca 72 89)
The Black Eagles stayed level on points with İstanbul Başakşehir at the top of the Turkish Premier League courtesy of a convincing win against their ten-man visitors, Vincent Aboubakar getting his first domestic goal for the club before Talisca did the rest.

Belenenses 0-2 Benfica (Mitroglou 10, Grimaldo 65)
Kostas Mitroglou buried a fourth Liga effort this term and defender Alex Grimaldo registered for the second time in three games as the Eagles maintained control at the top of the standings in Portugal.

Olexandriya 1-1 Dynamo Kyiv (Vitaliy Ponomar 79; González 52)
Dynamo were held away from home for the second week running in Ukraine following Vitaliy Ponomar's leveller 11 minutes from time.

Valencia 2-3 Barcelona(El Haddadi 52, Rodrigo 56; Messi 22 90+4pen; Suárez 62)
Barcelona's victory was soured by the loss of Andrés Iniesta with a right knee injury after a quarter of an hour. Lionel Messi's late penalty, awarded for a foul on Luis Suárez, was his sixth goal in three appearances since returning from a lay-off of his own.

Manchester City 1-1 Southampton (Iheanacho 55; Redmond 27)
City are now without a victory in five games in all competitions but returned to the top of the Premier League after substitute Kelechi Iheanacho rescued a point.

Bayern München 2-0 Borussia Mönchengladbach(Vidal 16, Douglas Costa 31)
Impressive against Celtic on Wednesday, Gladbach were well beaten in Munich. André Hahn, on target midweek, came closest for the Foals when he rattled Manuel Neuer's right-hand post with 20 minutes left.

Rangers 0-1 Celtic (M. Dembélé 88, Scottish League Cup semi-final)
Moussa Dembélé's close-range finish at Hampden Park sealed a second consecutive Glasgow derby success and a League Cup final showdown against Aberdeen. The young Celtic forward has now scored 16 goals in his last 19 games for club and country.

Sevilla 1-0 Atlético Madrid (N'Zonzi 73)
Diego Simeone's men missed the chance to reclaim top spot in the Liga after losing for the first time this term in all competitions. Atlético's task grew more difficult following the dismissal of Koke in the closing stages.

Bayern München 2-0 Borussia Mönchengladbach (Vidal 16, Douglas Costa 31)
Arturo Vidal headed in the opener from Rafinha's right-wing cross. Douglas Costa doubled the lead 15 minutes later, beating Yann Sommer at his near post after David Alaba's delivery had dropped to him in the area.

Ufa 0-0 Rostov
Rostov failed to score for the third successive match. Ufa had 14 shots on target to the visitors' one. 

PSV Eindhoven 1-0 Sparta (Ramselaar 77)
Bart Ramselaar's cool finish over outrushing Sparta keeper Roy Kortsmit earned PSV their first victory in five games.

Monaco 6-2 Montpellier (Falcao 36pen, Mbappé 49, Jemerson 64, Germain 74, Lemar 76, Traoré 89; Boudebouz 9 61pen)
Radamel Falcao struck on his return from a month out as Leonardo Jardim's side came from behind to record an emphatic victory on Friday.

Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Both teams hit the crossbar, unbeaten Spurs doing so through Erik Lamela, in the first Premier League fixture of the weekend.

Bayer Leverkusen 0-3 Hoffenheim (Demirbay 15, Wagner 49, St Zuber 60)
Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland was dismissed early on, for a last-man foul on Kerem Demirbay, against the club he left in the summer.

Lokomotiv Moskva 1-0 CSKA Moskva (Maicon 65)
CSKA suffered a second Russian Premier League reverse in three outings, Maicon's second-half strike settling the Moscow derby.

Ingolstadt 3-3 Borussia Dortmund (Cohen 6, Lezcano 24 59; Aubameyang 59, Ramos 69, Pulišić 90+1)
Having trailed 2-0 and 3-1, Dortmund rescued a point thanks to substitute Christian Pulišić's added-time leveller. 

Real Madrid 2-1 Athletic Club (Benzema 7, Morata 83; Merino 27)
Álvaro Morata came off the bench to hit a late winner on his 24th birthday as Madrid returned to the top of the Liga on Sunday evening.

Sporting CP 1-1 Tondela (Campbell 90+6; Jhon Murillo 74)
Substitute Joel Campbell saved Sporting from a shock defeat against a side that started the match second from bottom in the Portuguese Liga. 

Legia Warszawa 2-1 Lech Poznań (Nikolić 64, Hämäläinen 90+3; Robak 90pen)
Kasper Hämäläinen landed the decisive blow against his erstwhile employers, three minutes after the visitors seemed to have garnered a point from their trip to the Polish capital. The Finland midfielder's intervention sealed only Legia's second Ekstraklasa win since late August.

Leicester City 3-1 Crystal Palace (Musa 42, Okazaki 63, Fuchs 80; Cabaye 85)
First Leicester goals for Ahmed Musa and left-back Christian Fuchs helped the English champions to only their third league victory of the campaign.

OB 0-3 København (Verbič 40, Frederik Tingager 47og, Delaney 76)
The Danish top-flight leaders have not been beaten in the league in 16 games – a run dating back to 22 May – after bouncing back from their first defeat in Europe this term.

Porto 3-0 Arouca (André Silva 43 78, Brahimi 90+1)
Porto leapfrogged Sporting into top spot after this resounding triumph, before being nudged down to second by Benfica. André Silva continued his fine form, taking his tally to ten goals in his last eight outings for club and country.

Club Brugge 2-1 Anderlecht (Vanaken 9, Vormer 47; Teodorczyk 87)
The hosts returned to winning ways in Belgium thanks to two first-half efforts. Club Brugge held on despite substitute Wesley's late dismissal.

AC Milan 1-0 Juventus (Locatelli 65)
Beaten on their last visit to San Siro, by Internazionale Milano on 18 September, Juventus came unstuck there again. Making only his second Serie A start of the campaign, teenager Manuel Locatelli decided the outcome, thumping a right-footed shot past Gianluigi Buffon and in off the underside of the crossbar.

Sevilla 1-0 Atlético Madrid (N'Zonzi 73)
Steven N'Zonzi settled the tie 17 minutes from time after good work by Luciano Vietto to send Sevilla top of the Liga until Real Madrid edged Athletic on Sunday evening.

Lyon 1-3 Guingamp (Lacazette 37pen; Salibur 46, Coco 52 77)
Guingamp recovered from a goal down to inflict Lyon's fifth loss in their last six matches.

Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 Cibalia (Soudani 33, Henríquez 42, Šitum 76)
Dinamo kept their fifth clean sheet in as many domestic fixtures, Mario Šitum rounding things off with his first goal for the Blues since August 2011.
