Jarolím fracture hampers Hamburg

Hamburger SV's David Jarolím is set to miss the start of the UEFA Champions League campaign after fracturing a bone in his forearm at the weekend.

Hamburger SV's David Jarolím is set to miss the start of the UEFA Champions League campaign after fracturing a bone in his forearm at the weekend.

Broken arm
The midfielder complained of pains in his right arm during Sunday's 1-1 Bundesliga draw against Hertha BSC Berlin. Jarolím was taken to hospital where examinations revealed a hairline fracture to his forearm. "David will need to rest for four to six weeks," explained club doctor Oliver Dierk. The UEFA Champions League group stage begins on 12/13 September.

Quick return
The 27-year-old Czech international said: "This is tough, but I will try to be back as soon as possible." Up until his 68th-minute substitution against Hertha, Jarolím had played every minute of Hamburg's 2006/07 season, including their successful UEFA Champions League qualifying bid.

Van der Vaart worry
In addition to the Jarolím setback, coach Thomas Doll has a question mark against Netherlands midfielder Rafael van der Vaart who injured his left thigh during the visit of Hertha. The club are yet to decide on a course of treatment for the influential 23-year-old.
