Trio snapped up by Ajax

AFC Ajax have signed FC Twente goalkeeper Sander Boschker and twins Henrik and Niklas Moisander.

UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists AFC Ajax's attempt to wrest back the Dutch Eredivisie title has begun with the signing of FC Twente goalkeeper Sander Boschker and Finnish twins Henrik and Niklas Moisander.

Experienced goalkeeper
Ajax finished a point behind PSV Eindhoven this season, meaning that they will have to play in the third qualifying round of the Champions League this summer. Ahead of that challenge coach Ronald Koeman has bolstered his side with the free transfer addition of 32-year-old goalkeeper Boschker, who has left Twente after 15 seasons and 356 Eredivisie matches. He saved three penalties in the 2000/01 Dutch Cup final shoot-out against PSV, Twente winning 3-0 on spot kicks after a goalless draw.

Second choice
Bogdan Lobont is set to remain Ajax's first choice, but Boschker will have the chance to displace Maarten Stekelenburg as second choice. Boschker said: "It is never fun to sit on the bench, but I will try to make the choice for Koeman as hard as possible."

Twins sign
Meanwhile, the club that made a star of Finnish international Jari Litmanen have given two-year contracts to his 17-year-old compatriots, who both join from TPS Turku. Goalkeeper Henrik Moisander and defender Niklas were on trial at Ajax earlier this season and will initially play in the youth team coached by Danny Blind. Both were part of the Finland squad in the 2002 UEFA European Under-17 finals, and have since graduated to the U19 team.
