Demel ruled out for Dortmund

BV Borussia Dortmund have lost midfield player Guy Demel for three months after knee surgery.

Meniscus injury
The former Arsenal FC player picked up the injury to his meniscus while making only his fifth appearance for the Ruhr club as they drew 2-2 against local rivals FC Schalke 04 in the opening game of the Bundesliga season on Saturday. Initial estimates had said he would be out for a month but the problem proved to be worse than first feared after the operation in Munich.

Serious injuries
The 22-year-old Frenchman is the fifth Dortmund player to succumb to injury this summer. Evanilson and Torsten Frings are both sidelined with cruciate ligament damage, while Christoph Metzelder and his brother Malte have just returned to training after spells out. "Three knee injuries in three weeks - I have had enough," said the club's sporting manager Michael Zorc.
