Stocklasa hat-trick not enough

Luxembourg 3-3 LiechtensteinSix goals, two red cards and a penalty miss tells the story.

Luxembourg 3-3 Liechtenstein
Luxembourg coach Allan Simonsen is still looking for his first win after his side battled to a thrilling 3-3 draw against Liechtenstein in Hesperange tonight.

First-half hat-trick
Luxembourg went into the match as favourites, but were forced to stage a stunning comeback after Martin Stocklasa scored a first-half hat-trick to put the visitors 3-0 up after just 38 minutes. Stocklasa's first goal, scored from just five metres, followed a corner that the Luxembourg defence failed to clear properly in the sixth minute.

Penalty miss
The corner itself had resulted from a saved penalty, when Luxembourg keeper Stéphane Gillet kept out an attempt by Liechtenstein's Ronny Büchel. Stocklasa added his second in the 26th minute, firing in a shot that was deflected over Gillet. His third goal followed another poor clearance and he was allowed time by home defender Jeff Strasser to fire in from the corner of the penalty box past a stunned Gillet.

Red card
Strasser made amends a minute later by shooting low past Liechtenstein keeper Peter Jehle after his own free-kick had been blocked by the visitors' wall. Visiting defender Frederic Gigon was sent off just before half-time for a second bookable offence as he lunged at Luc Holtz.

Great comeback
Luxembourg emerged from the break a more organised side and found themselves facing nine men when Liechtenstein's Matthias Beck was sent off after 68 minutes. Marcel Christophe cut the deficit to one goal with a close-range volley, before Manuel Cardoni shot low into the left-hand corner of the net to level the scores with seven minutes left to play.
