There were schoolchildren with St George's flags singing God Save the Queen and a town mayor invoking, in his best English, the "Three Lions".

Fair to say, then, it was a colourful first morning's training session for Roy Hodgson's squad in Chantilly today and afterwards Daniel Sturridge and Kyle Walker spoke to UEFA.com about England's attacking options, their own hopes of being involved and why, in Sturridge's mind, England need to enjoy themselves in France.

England's warm welcome in Chantilly
"It was nice, we had the trumpets going yesterday and to come here today and see all the locals was great."

Hitting the ground running against Russia on Saturday
"I wouldn't necessarily stress about winning the first game – it's just about going into the game with the right mentality and not putting pressure on ourselves. As long as we don't have any pressure on us from inside the camp, we will go out there and have fun, and when you have fun you have success."

Playing his part in France
"I'm feeling great, very happy and looking forward to helping my team hopefully have some success in the competition. I'm always confident in my own ability – it is down to the manager to choose the squad and the players on any given day which he feels best to play against the opposition. I'm focusing on my ability on the training field."

England's attacking options
"I think we have goals in the team. We have a lot of players, not just attacking wise but in midfield, who add a lot to the team. We have great defensive attributes as well as the full-backs who are attacking, so we have a lot of strengths and are just looking forward to it all gelling and hopefully going out there and getting some success."

His Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Harry Kane's importance to England
"If you watch the Premier League week in, week out, this is what Harry Kane is going to give you for England – he will give his 110% on the pitch and is definitely going to get you some goals."

Having four of Spurs colleagues with him at his first big tournament
"It's great to play with players I play with day in, day out. It makes you feel at home in a way and it's good to have them around us. We've got youth in the team and a little bit of experience as well, which is always a good combination. I'm just eager to get started."

Pushing for a starting role at right-back
"Getting the man of the match for your country [against Portugal last Thursday] is always fantastic. It was a good game for myself, we won and got a clean sheet as well so defensively it was good. Whoever plays out of me or Nathaniel [Clyne], we're both good players and are going to be fine. He has got my support whoever plays."
