Sevilla challenge for Chevantón

Sevilla FC are to sign Uruguay striker Ernesto Chevantón on a five-year contract from AS Monaco FC, with the UEFA Cup holders reportedly paying €8m.

Prolific scorer
The 25-year-old has cost a reported €8m. He had spent the past two campaigns with the principality club, scoring 20 goals in 50 Ligue 1 appearances having joined them after a three-season stay with Italian side US Lecce. "We have an agreement with Sevilla," Monaco general manager Marc Keller said. Chevantón has scored seven goals in 21 international matches for his country. Sevilla, the UEFA Cup holders, will enter the 2006/07 edition in September's first round and have already signed German defender Andreas Hinkel, Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen and Portuguese midfielder Duda this summer.
