Tim Sherwood has been placed in charge of Tottenham Hotspur FC until the end of 2014/15.

The 44-year-old stepped up from the backroom staff at the UEFA Europa League contenders to take temporary command following the departure of André Villas-Boas a week ago. He has now been given an 18-month contract after following up a 2-1 League Cup home defeat to West Ham United FC last week with a 3-2 Premier League victory at Southampton FC on Sunday.

The club's chairman Daniel Levy explained: "We have a great squad and we owe them a head coach who will bring out the best in them and allow them to flourish and enjoy a strong, exciting finish to the season. We are in the fortunate position of having within our club a talented coach in Tim Sherwood. We believe Tim has both the knowledge and the drive to take the squad forward."

With Chris Ramsey, Les Ferdinand and Steffen Freund working alongside him, former Blackburn Rovers FC and Spurs midfielder Sherwood will bid to steer the club back into contention for a European finish in the Premier League, while maintaining their push for glory in the UEFA Europa League. They meet FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the round of 32.
