R. Standard de Liège midfield player Sérgio Conceição could miss the start of the UEFA Cup group stage after being ruled out for a month with a knee injury.
The 29-year-old Portuguese international will undergo a hospital examination to determine the extent of the injury, suffered in training, but it is feared that he may have to undergo surgery. A statement on the club website said: "It is not clear yet how serious the injury is, but it seems he will certainly be out for a month."
Sérgio Conceição signed for the Belgian side in the summer from UEFA Champions League winners FC Porto. His new team qualified for the UEFA Cup group stage on Thursday by beating VfL Bochum 1848 on away goals, and will find out on Tuesday who their four pool opponents are and whether they will begin their campaign on 21 October or 4 November - the latter date giving Sérgio Conceição a chance of recovering in time.
