FC Steaua Bucuresti have shown their ambition for the UEFA Cup group stage with the creation of a new scouting department under Dumitru Dumitriu and the offer of lucrative player bonuses should they reach the round of 32.
Former Steaua player and coach Dumitriu will co-ordinate both the uncovering of new talent and reconnaissance on opponents. Dumitriu led Steaua for three years in the mid-1990s, winning three league titles and competing each time in the UEFA Champions League group stage. He has also coached in Cyprus and Greece, and until the beginning of this season was in charge of FC Politehnica AEK Timisoara.
Meanwhile, Steaua owner Gigi Becali has announced that should the team progress from Group B, each player will receive between €21,800 and €36,300, depending on their final position. Their campaign starts at home to R. Standard de Liège on 21 October, before further fixtures against Parma FC, Besiktas JK and Athletic Club Bilbao.
