Third signing
The 27-year-old passed a medical at St James' Park this afternoon and has agreed a four-year contract, becoming the club's third signing of the month after defenders Jean-Alain Boumsong and Celestine Babayaro. Faye will help strengthen the Newcastle midfield, filling the defensive role vacated by the injured Nicky Butt, who may not play again this season because of hamstring problems.
'Valuable addition'
"We are delighted to have him on board and he will be a really valuable addition to our squad," said Newcastle manager Graeme Souness. "Amdy is a defensive midfield player, which is an area we have been looking to strengthen." Faye is available for Newcastle's UEFA Cup campaign, where they play SC Heerenveen in the last 32 next month.
