Kucherevskiy stands down at Dnipro

FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk accepted coach Evgeniy Kucherevskiy's resignation in the run-up to their 0-0 draw against FC Metalist Kharkhiv.

Loss of control
No reason was given for the 64-year-old's resignation but general manager Andriy Stetsenko was prepared to speculate, with the club lying 14th in the Ukrainian league. "In my view, the coach had lost control over the team which affected our results this season," he said.

Dnipro gratitude
The coach had been in charge for the last three seasons, leading them to a fourth-placed finish in the league in 2004/05. "We are grateful to the coach for what he has done for this club," said Stetsenko. "Thanks to him, Dnipro have upheld their winning traditions and had some success in Europe."

Temporary command
Kucherevskiy successfully led Dnipro to the group stage of the UEFA Cup, where they lost their opening game 2-1 at home against AZ Alkmaar last week. For the weekend game against Metalist he was replaced by his assistant, the 42-year-old Vadim Tischenko, who won footballing gold at the 1988 Olympics with the USSR.
