Defender Barry Opdam has signed a three-year extension to his contract with UEFA Cup contenders AZ Alkmaar binding him to the club until the summer of 2010.

Defender Barry Opdam has signed a three-year extension to his contract with UEFA Cup contenders AZ Alkmaar, binding him to the club until the summer of 2010.

Club veteran
The 30-year-old has already been at the club for eleven seasons, making 282 league appearances and scoring eleven league goals, playing 20 UEFA Cup matches as well as earning eight caps for the Netherlands. Should he serve the whole of his new contract, he will have been at AZ for 14 years. AZ host SC Braga in their opening UEFA Cup group stage game on Thursday.
