Borowski groin surgery a success

Werder Bremen midfielder Tim Borowski has undergone a successful operation to treat a groin problem as he continues to recover from torn knee ligaments.

Werder Bremen midfielder Tim Borowski has undergone a successful operation to treat a troublesome groin problem as he continues to recover from torn knee ligaments.

Injury opportunity
The 26-year-old is out until the end of April after injuring his knee during Bremen’s 2-2 draw with VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach a week ago, meaning he misses their forthcoming UEFA Cup Round of 16 tie with RC Celta de Vigo and Germany's UEFA EURO 2008™ trip to the Czech Republic on 24 March. As he was sidelined, Bremen agreed he should take the opportunity to undergo the surgery for the groin complaint.

Recovery
"I have had problems for some time and wanted to go under the knife in summer," the midfielder said. "As I am out for several weeks I had it done now with the approval of our medical department." Borowski is now concentrating on returning in time for Bremen's potential Bundesliga title run-in and, should Werder make it that far, the UEFA Cup semi-finals on 26 April and 3 May.
