Ivan de la Peña will miss the second leg of RCD Espanyol's UEFA Cup semi-final against Werder Bremen after failing to recover from a minor calf injury.
'Still in pain'
The club's medical staff have suggested the 30-year-old playmaker should rest for up to ten days in order to overcome fully the injury to his left leg. "The player hasn't responded well in the last few days and Iván told me yesterday he was still in pain," said Espanyol doctor Miguel Cervera. "After the tests we carried out this morning, I have to say he'll miss Thursday's game unless there's a miracle. This type of injury needs seven to ten days to heal." De la Peña pulled the calf muscle during last Thursday's 3-0 home win against Bremen and is within a booking of sitting out his next European match.
