Bayer 04 Leverkusen are hoping that they have unearthed the new Dimitar Berbatov after signing striker Atanas Kurdov on a four-year deal from PFC Levski Sofia.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen are hoping that they have unearthed the new Dimitar Berbatov after signing striker Atanas Kurdov on a four-year deal from PFC Levski Sofia.

Familiar route
The 19-year-old impressed the German club's scouts with his performances for Levski's youth team, convincing them to take him to the BayArena, where Tottenham Hotspur FC striker Berbatov also enjoyed his big break. The former PFC CSKA Sofia man also joined Leverkusen at the age of 19 seven years ago and went on to become one of Europe's top forwards.

Immense promise
Kurdov is yet to play a senior professional game but is already regarded as a player of immense promise. The son of former Levski striker Petar Kurdov, he had the chance to join Berbatov in London after joining Tottenham for trials in May 2007 but has now decided to link up with Leverkusen. The Bundesliga outfit will play in the first round of this season's UEFA Cup after finishing fifth last term.
