Rednic resigns from Dinamo post

Mircea Rednic has resigned as coach of the Romanian champions FC Dinamo 1948 Bucureşti after a loss to AFC Gloria 1922 Bistrita left them ninth in Liga 1.

Mircea Rednic has resigned as coach of FC Dinamo 1948 Bucureşti following a 1-0 home defeat by AFC Gloria 1922 Bistrita in Romania's Liga 1.

League problems
The result left Dinamo seven points adrift of leaders AFC Rapid Bucureşti, who have taken 14 points from their opening six games, although they do have one game in hand. The club also missed out on the group stage of the UEFA Champions League having fallen to S.S. Lazio in qualifying. A statement said the resignation was accepted because of "the failure to achieve the first objective of the 2007-2008 season [qualification for the group stage] and recent domestic results".

Title success
Rednic, a former Dinamo player and Romanian international, had been in charge since summer 2006. He led the side to the 2006/07 title but Dinamo then lost the Romanian Super Cup to Rapid and the Lazio tie, while slipping to ninth in Liga 1. Dinamo have been drawn to play IF Elfsborg in the first round of the UEFA Cup.
