Guppy may miss out

UEFA Cup semi-finalists Celtic FC could lose winger Steve Guppy for the rest of the season with a groin injury.

Celtic FC winger Steve Guppy could be ruled out for the remainder of the season after it was revealed he may need surgery to repair a hernia in his groin.

Specialist visit
The former Leicester City FC player saw a specialist in Leeds along with club doctor Roddy MacDonald on Monday after feeling discomfort in the left side of his groin. The club will allow Guppy a week to see if the injury settles following two weeks of rehabilitation work. If the rest brings no improvement, he will see the same Munich surgeon who treated Rob Douglas and Joos Valgaeren.

Maloney hope
Meanwhile, Hoops striker Shaun Maloney could still play in the UEFA Cup semi-final against Boavista FC despite leaving the Under-21 game against Livingston FC on crutches on Monday evening. The Scottish U21 international has suffered a minor achilles injury but is expected to be fit, together with wing-back Didier Agathe, who suffered no reaction to his 75-minute run-out at Livingston after a month on the sidelines with a hamstring tear.
