Edward Lorens has replaced Jan Zurek as coach of Polish side Dospel Katowice.
Surprise success
Despite a small squad of experienced players, Katowice were one of the surprise teams of last season in Poland, claiming third place in the Ekstraklasa table and earning a place in next season's UEFA Cup.
Contract expires
However, club president Piotr Dziurowicz decided against renewing Zurek's contract, which expires on 30 June. Zurek, who heard of his dismissal from a newspaper while on holiday in Turkey, was philosophical about his departure.
'New challenge'
"It’s a pity I had to find out about it that way, and I’m sorry it all happened," he said. "It's just life. I'm a professional coach and now I have to wait for a new challenge."
Wide experience
Lorens left his most recent club, the Cypriot First Division side Anorthosis Famagusta FC, in December 2002. The 50-year-old coach was previously as assistant to former Poland national team coach Janusz Wojcik, and has also coached Poland's Under-23 national side in the past.
