Manchester City FC have completed the signing of French playmaker Antoine Sibierski from RC Lens.
Earlier than expected
Sibierski had been due to join City next summer on a free transfer but manager Kevin Keegan brought the move forward following the departure of midfield player Ali Benarbia. The Premiership club have paid around €1m to secure his services immediately.
Speaking to City's official website, Keegan said: "He is desperately keen to come and play in England and he now has that wish granted so the rest is up to him and us. He is a very exciting player."
The 29-year-old Sibierski spent the last three seasons with Ligue 1 side Lens. His career began in 1992/93 with Lille OSC, before a switch to AJ Auxerre four years later. After two seasons he was on the move again, this time joining FC Nantes Atlantique. He has played 13 times in the UEFA Champions League, with seven appearances for Auxerre in 1996/97, and six for Lens in last year's competition.
City, who like Lens will play in the UEFA Cup this season, have been busy in the transfer market this summer signing English internationals David Seaman and Trevor Sinclair, Netherlands midfield player Paul Bosvelt and German defender Michael Tarnat.
